Before you go in
A few things to look at before you enter Medina:
Make sure you, or your group, can handle the Shades in Ankh Morpork.
The Medina is like The Shades, just harder. Everything you will need to handle
The Shades you will need in Medina, just some more of it.
Kill a few thugs. The Medina is crowded with them, and you must be able
to handle large groups of them to survive in The Medina.
Fix everything to excelent condition. You don't want your backpack to
break, or your weapons to decay to very good condition, you will ned them in
best shape. Make an alias for "cond all damaged" wich will check all your
items for damages.
And don't forget, hp and gp to max.
The maze
The Medina has two entrances, the northwest and southeast. I am pretty sure it
has 15-20 rooms. This maze is not like the Shades maze. Exits are geographical,
north, west etc. But this folows no logic. For example, going north, then
north again might make you end up in the same room. Also, exits are one-way:
going through the north exit out of a room might get you into a room with
exits w and e.
Third thing is, the rooms mutates themself. I have observed this far they
changes direction of exits. Mapes are few around since it ain't easy to create
one. I will make one though, if I just find my old notes where all my research is writen down on the matter.
Fighting
Jepps, and lots of it. I have seen up to 10 thugs in here in one same room.
Thugs autoattack here, needless to say. They have alignment on the dark side.
They do not run away as in The Shades, as far as I know. Overall strategy here
is to stay in the room and cleane it out before going to the next. This will
be your only chanse not to have a dozen of thughs to deal with. Remember that
thugs come and goes in groups of up to 5. But if it is day, you can always
look ahead into the room before you go in there.
The npc you will encounter here are all members of the triad. I have seen 3
kinds this far:
Triad thug: Weapon: a meat cleaver.
Triad heavy: Weapons: a tetsubo.
Triad boss: Weapons: katana and wakizashi.
Grouping
Grouping is the prefered way to go in here. Try to get 6 players in the group,
all experienced and skilled. 3 warriors and 1 priest. The other 2 slots could
be either warriors, priests or wizards.
The priests main function is to provide healing. They could also fumble, but
to the cost of 80 gp per weapon, you might end up waiting for his gp to
respawn most of the time. With multiple priests this could be a working
strategy though.
A wizard should be equipped with pragi, and could also be used as a quick way
out.
Dieing
If you die here, don't worry about your corpse, it is thrown out by a thug to
one of the exits. Don't worry for the money in your inventory either, they will
take care of it for you.
Cash
You can get some coins from a dead corpse but they don't have much. They also
do not carry valuable items
